Many Apple users report suddenly being locked out of their Apple ID account on their devices. Worse, they could not log back into their account with their password, forcing them to reset their login credentials.

Apple has not yet acknowledged this issue, and it does not appear linked to any iCloud server outages.

Locked out users were forced to change their Apple ID account password

Affected Apple users are flooding X, Threads, and other social media platforms with reports of the issue. They all complain about their Apple ID logging out from all their devices for no apparent reason. And then being unable to log back in despite using the correct password. Eventually, they reset their Apple ID account password.

This also means that affected users will have to generate new app-specific passwords, which can be time-consuming and tedious if they have many apps. What can make this matter worse is if users have Stolen Device Protection enabled and are not at a trusted location. It could then make resetting the Apple account password difficult.

Apple’s System Status page does not reflect any outage, so there’s no clarity on why this issue happened. The problem does not appear to affect Apple users worldwide, as most reports originate from the US.

Unless Apple issues an official statement, it’s difficult to ascertain if this problem was caused by a security compromise or not. It might also have something to do with the impending Apple ID to Apple account makeover.

Were you also logged out of your Apple ID account on your iPhone or Mac? Did you have to reset your account’s password to log back in? Let us know in the comments.
